Why isn't this all over the news?

We've been following a story for a while now about global warming. There is a new study out that shows that 1998 was NOT the hottest year of the century, rather, Dust Bowl year 1934 was.
NASA is downplaying the findings, calling them "trivial". I have heard neither hide nor hair of this on national news. I did hear about it on talk radio, but that was it.
So my question is, Why isn't this spread all over the news? The "fact" that 1998 was the hottest year of the century (or did they say millenium?) made the news, both nationally and worldwide, for a long time.
