My Day

Thought I would update you all on what I've been up to, being all alone and all. :)
Yesterday I took a good, long walk. I walked 37 blocks!! Jef said that is three miles! :) Hurray! I walked north first to 21st St. See, since Kamali & Tina bought the coffee shop I have been trying to stay away from Starbucks. You know, loyalty & all. ;) So I thought if I wanted a drink, I would see if King's Coffee House was still open & maybe buy something there. Knowing I can spend like crazy given the chance, I left my debit card & ID at home. So I had about $6 in change in my pocket.
Yesterday was a lovely day for a walk. The air was cool, but not cold. I did wear a hooded sweater, but it wasn't cold. Mostly I wore the sweater for the pockets! The day was nice, the houses & yards were pretty, and the walk was fun. When I got to 21st St., I saw a shop across the street called "Sonja's clothes for living" or something like that. Since it was my name, spelled correctly, I had to stop in. :) The lady who owned the shop was Sonja. :) It was a cute shop, but out of my price range. :( When we get rich, I will have to go back. I'll also have to be skinnier!
I walked up and around the block, then headed back to where King's Coffee used to be. The windows had shades drawn, so I thought it might be closed. Upon reading the sign posted on the door, I found out the coffee shop was gone, but the people who had owned it were opening a mortgage co. There or something like that.
Next door to King's Coffee was a new pizza shop, so I stopped in there. It was a small pizzeria run by a husband & wife team. :) I like shops like that. Upon asking if they delivered, I received a long story on why they could not (way too expensive in insurance). The lady was really nice and even gave me a sample of their foccacia. It was salty & definitely no where near as good as Jef's. :)
I walked on, turning south on Prospect St. I followed Prospect all the way to 8th, then turned toward home. I dropped off the menu & business card the pizza lady had given me, then turned toward 6th Ave.
I had decided to get a cider at Starbucks and maybe some of their gingerbread that I adore, and then get something at Taco Bell. After I got to Starbucks, though, I found I didn't have enough money for all that. A caramel apple cider there costs $2.40! I thought it would be like a buck-fifty. The bread alone costs $1.70! They didn't have the gingerbread, so I thought i would try the pumpkin loaf. When I got to the counter, I saw they had a pumpkin chai latte (sounds utterly disgusting to me) and a pumpkin cream muffin. I asked if they had any of the muffins yet & she said yes. I also asked when the gingerbread would come & she did not reply (probably didn't hear me). So I bought my muffin and left. At Taco Bell I got nachos bellegrande. Then I came home.
It was relaxing! My evening was spent watching "Two Weeks Notice" which Jef didn't want to see, and eating my dinner & veggin'. :)
when Jef came home, we watched the news & had popcorn.
This morning, I woke up all on my own!!! No little kids running in and out, no one waking up at 4 a.m. ... It was a beautiful thing. :)
Today Jef & I got up and went to Applebee's (thanks Mom & Dad). They actually serve breakfast on Saturday. So I had french toast and Jef had biscuits & gravy. Then we went to Borders ALONE. :) That was nice.
Now I am going to walk to a salon to have my hair done & my eyebrows waxed! wooo hooo!!! Catch ya on the flip side!!!

I'm all alone!

Oh what to do? What to do?? :D
Tina just stopped by & whisked the boys away. :) They are off to have a fun sleepover with Aunt Tina & Aunt Kamali. Tomorrow they have a birthday party to attend. I hope they have fun & are well-mannered. This is their very first kid party. Jonathan & Daniel have never had a kid birthday party for themselves or gone to one.
I'm thinking of taking a walk & enjoying the brisk September air. Stinker that I am, I have to have a destination, though!!! Maybe if I start walking I'll just happen upon something fun.

Weekend Review

(Sigh)
Today I am tired, and a little sad. This last weekend was nice. We're going to be busy for a while, it seems, so that will be good. I keep getting sad - usually on days I feel are "important", like our first day of school, or Daniel's birthday party. :( Keeping busy is good, but doesn't really do much to keep my mind off things.
So, the weekend in review ~
This morning (Tuesday) the boys & I woke up early. Jonathan & Daniel had eye exams this morning. We needed to be at the dr.’s office at 8:40 a.m.! Thankfully we made it there on time. :) I had tried to explain to the boys what they would need to do, emphasizing honesty above all. As most of you know, both Jef & I wear glasses and Nicholas does too, so I didn’t want them fudging the answers just to get glasses like everyone else. :) They did pretty well. Daniel had a hard time sitting still while Jonathan was in the chair, but overall, he did great. Jonathan also had a hard time sitting still, but he wasn’t quite as squirmy as Daniel. :) Dr. Gorum said both boys are far-sighted to one degree. He said that is nothing to worry about – we’ll start to worry if it gets to three degrees. He said since they are young, they will probably “grow into” their eyes. :) Jonathan did really well on his whole exam. He did especially well on the color-blindness test. Daniel did ok on his exam. The dr. had to show him pictures instead of letters. Both Jef & I thought he could have done the letters, but Daniel said he couldn’t tell what they were. Daniel surprised the doctor on the depth perception test. He did so well Dr. Gorum said he could be a pilot someday! (Don’t get Mama’s hopes up now!! I always wanted to be in the Air Force, but never had the eyesight. Oh, and they didn’t allow women on aircraft carriers then …)
Anyways, that was the exam. They are fine. He’ll see them again in a year or two. After the exam, we stopped by the bank & my dr.’s office (needed to pay a bill from June). Then we came home & watched “Spiderman” before Jef headed off to work.
We were supposed to go to a Suessical (a Dr. Suess Musical) today (Wednesday), but Kamali couldn’t take us. Not having a ride turned into a good thing, though, because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go. I guess I was worried if it would be any good, and how I would handle the kids (yes, Kamali would be there to help, but they’ve never been to a show before … ), etc. That and not feeling so “up” made me almost glad we didn’t get to go. We were bummed though, about not getting to spend the day with Aaron & Charissa.
Skipping all over the place here – Monday
Monday Jef had two computer jobs to do. He had one way down in Parkland (about 45 min. away) and one at William Dickson (where he usually fixes computers). The job down in Parkland ended up being super easy – he just reset their router! :) So he felt really good about that. Then he went to Wm. Dickson Co. and trained everyone on using their new fax machine that he installed. This machine is amazing! It can receive e-mails & print them out like faxes!! Or, it can send and e-mail to your mailbox. Technology, man.
When Jef got home, he & the boys fixed Baloo (his car – a 1986 Pontiac Sunbird). Baloo needed some wires replaced and something else fixed. Jef did these things, then reset the timing. We headed off to Kamali & Tina’s so we could work on a flyer for Jef’s business. The car was feeling kind of rough, so Jef took the car to Bucky’s to get the oil changed. We’d just paid for that at Goodyear not too long ago, but they didn’t replace the sticker in the window, and the car’s been so rough. So we think they may have charged us without actually doing the oil change. :(
We hung out with Kamali & Tina. We had pizza and chocolate (always a good thing). We watched “The Life Aquatic by Steve Zissou”. Funny movie, a lot like “The Royal Tannebaums”. :o)
Sunday ~
Today our friend Adam came over. Adam is from Gambia, Africa. She is really neat. Adam went to college in London. She used to work with Jef, but now she works & lives in Bellevue. ( We miss her & don’t get to see her as often as we’d like. Adam’s girls, Kadijha & Ramou are in elementary school. Their school was having a fundraiser for victims of Katrina. So Adam & I made cookies all day. ( We made the following cookies:

  • Reese's peanut butter cookies (you know the store-bought kind you just put on the cookie sheet & bake?)
  • Oatmeal raisin
  • Peanut blossoms (my mom’s recipe!!)
  • Chocolate chip
  • Thumbprint cookies – a dozen with jam and about a dozen and a half with kisses
  • Lemon squares
It was a busy day! The boys had a lot of fun with the girls. They played outside with chalk (writing on the sidewalk), they played “UNO”, they played in their room, they played Nintendo, and they played “Sorry!”. It was a busy day.
